“Today’s youths are the nation’s assets”.
In about 350 words, explain and discuss how the family, community, neighbourhood, and the government can influence or shape the personality and behaviour of youths. You must answer this in terms of the above quote and your own experiences.
Family:
The family encourages their children especially the young people to involve in the community development activities. The family helps them in establishing and maintaining personal relationship with family, friends, relatives and society. The family supports and provide them with knowledge and skills to ensure successful in their academics and life (marriage and parenting skills) or any aspects of family development.
Community:
The people at the community level is to include the young people in Village Consultative Council as a committee member as back up to the senior citizen as preparation to empower the young people. By inclusion of the young people in decision-making will enhance their knowledge and boost spirit of patriotism.
Neighbourhood
To involve the youth to participate in the neighbourhood crime watch. By allowing youth the opportunity to learn about the themes of integrity is part and parcel of a continuous drive that allows Bruneians to contend with challenges in attaining good governance.
Government
To encourage youth to participate in nation-building celebrations and events locally e.g. in National Day Celebration, or internationally e.g. forums, as good-will ambassadors who exemplify the true nature and spirit of every Bruneian.
My general comments on the above-mentioned quote:
As a volunteer youth workers who are working with the young people in various ranges of age from different background, it is my responsibility as an Assistant District Scout Commissioner and also as member of National anti-drug NGO in Brunei Darussalam to play role in the nation’s building. It is worthwhile to mention here that during 1st National Youth Congress, my group came up with a recommendation to appoint youth representatives at Legislative Council. With the inclusion of the young member at the Youth parliament, it is aimed to empower the young people and hear their voice and their needs. However, we should change our mindset on the misconception on the responsibilities of issues pertaining to the development of youth must be everyone’s business.
