The declining fertility rates around the world including Brunei Darussalam seem to be closely related to the death rate. At one time, many children did not survive to adulthood. The effect of rapid in population growth for a country will cause the employment to be very difficult and competitive. Environmental related problems will also become issues to be addressed which impact of the extensive degeneration of soil, waterways, plants and wildlife. Many huge projects and exploitation of natural resources and commercial competition will be carried out to cater the needs.
People in rich countries consume enormous amounts of the world’s resources through their lifestyle – driving cars, eating sumptuous food and so on (and leave amounts of waste). If the whole world lived as we do, reserves of oils and minerals would run out, global warming would speed up and wildlife habitats would be taken over for farms and cities.
The effects on decreasing births for a country will effect on social structures where low number of population would have a much higher proportion for older people. Fewer people would be working and the same time as governments needed more money to spend on welfare.
Due to fewer people means fewer costumers for services and goods. This could weaken the economy and lead to a recession (“Nauzubillah Minn Zalik”).
So, the government should intervene to change the situation by encouraging people to have more children and also encouraging immigration. Mark: B-
